EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH FEW OF ODUDUWA UNIVERSITY ERUDITE..

DR. BABU AND DR. SILAMBARASAN POSING TO THE CAMERA
This is an exclusive interview by OUI GOSSIP with two of our lecturers in ODUDUWA UNIVERSITY.

Dr. Silambarasan an associate professor of physics while Dr. R.S Achyuthial Babu an Associate Professor of Chemistry both from south India.
The interview in proper with the Doctors in their words

OUI GOSSIP: How have you been coping in OUI since your arrival?

Silambarasan: I arrived Oduduwa University on the 4th, April 2015 from a small college which is not as big as this institution in south india, then I met with the H.O.D of my department who said I should resume with lecturing the students.

OUI GOSSIP: Sir Can you tell us your experience so far lecturing here in OUI??

Dr. Silambarasan: Well, it’s been nice so far lecturing here in Nigeria and the student here have been giving a very good response, also they are very nice and whenever am going for a class they are very interactive. They respond very well to my questions during lectures and most times the class ends up been like a discussion section and even the students and I do discuss after the lectures. Sometimes I would even ask question like “If you explain this, I would give you 5marks?” and boom the students would all be very effective and encouraged. So they would be trying to think and think of the answers like that. I did same thing when I was in India and I must say the feedbacks am getting from the Nigerian students is very good same as the one I got from India.

OUI GOSSIP: So Nigerian students, have they been cooperative with you??

Dr. Silambarasan: Yes, they’ve been so cooperative so far.

OUI GOSSIP: Sir, how would you compare the Nigerian student and the Indian Students??

Dr. Silambarasan: You know the Indian students are scared of their professors, but the Nigerian students are not like that and if they don’t understand what the teacher is saying or trying to teach them their reactions will be real worse But in India, the students are not like that, if they don’t understand the teacher, they would all keep silence. All what the Nigerian students want and need is a good friendly staff and at the same time they’re expecting a good quality of teaching, they expect you as the teacher to make them able to understand what they’re going to be taught, making it very clear the topic you’re going to be handling and if they don’t understand they get it boring even at that I can see their expressions with somebody doing yawning and all that, with another doing something else or even going as far as sleeping while the lecture is on. So I can understand it all you know, that’s why am trying to bring the very basic topics, starting to teach with little basic points and then they would pick interest and come forward and take parts in the lecture cause am starting from the basic of things…  Cause if you notice the students that seats at the back seat usually do some naughty things and whenever the teacher enters the class he gives lessons to the ones in front and throw questions to the ones at the back seat just to make them part of the class.

OUI GOSSIP: So sir, when you were still a student, were you seating at the back seat or front?

Dr. Silambarasan: Ya, when I was a student, I seat in front expecting to hear and learn what the teacher has to say and there is no this “mutual” relationship within the staff and the students but here, I am enjoying this relation and interaction between the staff and the students cause here in Oduduwa University, they can call you at any time that “Sir, I don’t understand you and all this, Sir can you come again and all that”. I would like to use this medium to advice and encourage the student to study hard and make good use of their time and the good facilities this institution has offered to them.

OUI GOSSIP:  Dr. Babu, Sir you’ve been on this campus for a while now. Do you find it very difficult coping and adapting with the environment and the students you see around here?

Dr. Babu: I joined the department of chemical sciences here, and as far as my work is concerned the semester has got very good academic environment and lots of things to offer and people friendly environment.

OUI GOSSIP: Sir what can you say to the food you’ve seen and eaten so far here in Nigeria?

Dr. Silambarasan: I often say this, that in Nigeria we have same latitude with that of South India if you see the map. The soil texture here is same with that of South India and you can find same food planted and harvested here there too. Like the likes of Potatoes, Cabbage, Rice, Tomato, Carrot  and even Cassava known as GARRI here.

OUI GOSSIP: Wow, so are you trying to say sir that you take Garri??

Dr. Silambarasan: Yes, I take it for breakfast. And most at times I soak it with water and sugar and take it, and it’s very nice. I even take bread and beans most times you know and they all taste great.

OUI GOSSIP: Dr. Silambarasan tell us about your marital life?

Dr. Silambarasan: For now am not married but next year am hoping to be married

OUI GOSSIP: So are you getting married in Nigeria or you’d be getting married over there in India?

Dr. Silambarasan: Hahahaaa!, well let’s see next year, my parents would decide that. You see in India when you attend the wedding ceremony of a son or daughter they do not leave you alone until after the marriage and everything. Until then you’d be free from the care of your parents and be alone with your new family.

OUI GOSSIP: So sir, are you saying that you’re still under the care of your parents now because you’re not yet married?

Dr. Silambarasan: Yes. You see, here in Nigeria, I came to know that most of the students, they stay alone and with this they lack parental care. Because they don’t have grandmother, grandfather and relative around to give them advice. But in India, you’d see a family with grandmother, grandfather and all that. Whenever I go home, my grandmother would call me up and advice me.

OUI GOSSIP: So sir, what has been your motivation to stay in this school??

Dr.  Silambarasan: To the best of my knowledge, this University gives the best opportunities to students though it’s a private university, it’s like a Research university, a research university enhances better learning and it allows you to study anything. Unlike other universities, students have to go to school via commercial transport also does the lecturers but in Oduduwa University, there is provision for shelter for students known as Hostel and for the lecturers known as Staff quarters.

OUI GOSSIP: Dr. Babu, are you married??

Dr. Babu: Yes, I am. My wife is in India.

OUI GOSSIP: Do you have any intentions of bringing your wife to Nigeria, sir??

Dr.  Babu: Yes, I will decide a little later to bring my wife here.

OUI GOSSIP: Do you have kids sir??

Dr. Babu: No, I don’t have kids.

OUI GOSSIP: Thank you so much Doctors for your time we hope you grant us audience whenever we come calling for an interview again.
